It has been more than two months since I've charged my ipod, and about that long since I've even listened to anything on my itunes. I listen to the radio when I'm driving the Ranger at work, and sometimes turn it on when I'm at home, but it's usually just the "weekly top shitty." I found a station I liked at work and forgot to remember what it was and then someone changed it. Damn.
I blame my parents for not ever playing music in the house when I was a kid. Never even the radio, so I'm more used to silence than having something playing. And I have a really hard time liking a group for more than a couple weeks or months.
Which leads me to my next thought. Seeing as I don't have a favorite group or even a favorite song, I don't go to concerts. What 22 year old hasn't been to a rock concert?! They seem like a shit ton of fun, but who the hell would I go see? Paying to see a group I don't know and may not like doesn't make much sense, and I don't even know what people do at concerts that you don't sit down at. The terrace, classical concerts, concert on the square, and even the Dashboard Confessional concert I went to at Summerfest last year all had sitting involved.
I do like to think about the difference between music in English and music in other languages, though. Vocal adds a couple new dimensions to a song. You've got the meaning of the words and the sound of the words separate from the meaning. When I listen to songs in foreign languages I like how I can hear the words and not know what they mean. You can listen to the song on a more basic level, just the sound for what it is, which is impossible to do when you understand what's being said.
To end on a musical note (awful pun), I'm enjoying the sound of Coldplay's "Viva la Vita" which just came on the radio.
