Spring Semester Opening Post

I've got some interesting classes this semester. Or rather, my professors are very interesting. One's name is Michael Hunt. No, that's not a joke. Another used to be a bull rider. One's Finnish and he used to scare the crap out of me, but I seem to be getting over that. One of my professors already annoys me. He told us to leave our "college hats" at the door and come to class wearing our 6-year-old's pajamas instead. It was some metaphor about what attitude he wants us to have towards learning in his class.

Interesting factoids about the landscape program here: The national pass rate for the licencing exam is in the lower 30% (not good). The pass rate for UW graduates is 97% to 98% on the first try. WOOT! UW graduates are also some of the most highly recruited LA graduates in the nation, for some of the biggest most reputable firms. And the field is expected to grow 16% in the next 6 years. Yay jobs!

Anyway, 17 credits is the most I've ever had, and I'm worried I won't be able to spend much time with the people I care about. Which really sucks because almost all of the people I've come to know here will be leaving in May. I'll still have all the LA's, which I'm thankful for, and a few others that I really enjoy spending time with, but it's still going to be rough. I'm feeling more alone already.

In other news, the bones in my toes hurt all the time. What the hell is up with that? Last year and the year before they turned purple in springtime and now they're all arthritic or something. I'm too young for this.

Another thing I'm too young for is being worn out with being drunk. I thought I'd be able to handle endless nights of partying until I was like 30. Not the case. I enjoy having a casual beer (in the shower, watching football, watching a movie, whatever) but getting wasted just makes me feel like crap lately. I don't even enjoy the feeling of being drunk as much as I used to. Plus that shit is expensive.

Speaking of football, I'm surprised at how easy it has been to get interested in it. It used to bore me to tears but I've actually had a good time watching at the Blue Moon (my favorite to hang out recently). No doubt it has much to do with the people I'm watching football with (thanks, guys!). I still like hockey but I don't have anyone to watch pro hockey with, and I turn on the TV so rarely during the semester that I'm lucky to catch a game a month. Plus I just don't usually have 3 hours to spare like that. :(

My new year's resolutions to eat more vegetables and keep my room cleaner (note the -er. it's my loop hole) have been sufficiently maintained. Well, the room one is debatable but that's where the -er comes in. *wink*

I can't wait for April/June when I'm going to a Brewer's game with the LA's. Gonna be the best day trip ever! Rumors of seeing a Chicago Fire (soccer) game have also been circulating among my other friends. And I'm still holding out hope that a certain someone hasn't forgotten to try to get Blackhawks tickets for she and I at some point. I'm so excited for all of those!!!!
